Expect the unexpected

William entered a McDonalds colouring competition, dutifully posted off a few weeks ago, to win a free annual pass to Luna Park (great funfair-type place on the harbour in Sydney) and has been asking me every day ever since whether his prize has arrived. Explaining to him that hundreds of children would have entered the competition and it would be very unlikely he'd win has been met with deaf ears - as far as he was concerned, he'd entered, so the prize would be his.
So we, but not he, were very surprised this week when a letter arrived for him from McDonalds, enclosing his Luna Park annual pass and congratulating him on winning! He looked at us with astonishment as we praised him and took it all in his stride - he'd been expecting it all along, after all...

He also recently entered a competition to win a new bike - he desperately needs a bike and we were going to buy him one for his birthday - "No, don't" he says now - "I'm going to win one, remember?"... so do we dare buy him one?

We were also informed by the pool man this week that our pool had dropped to a 'critically low' water level (I blame those water guns!) so the kids were given the task of refilling it. Grumbles and mumbles until it dawned on them how fun this actually could be...
