Our nippers are now Nippers!

Today was the start of the Nippers Season - the Summer season of surf lifesaving for kids. Surf life saving is an amazing activity for growing a child’s confidence, knowledge and skills in the beach environment and a true Aussie activity - the children wear distinctive caps and outfits and have all sorts of fun on the beach - races on the sand, boogie boarding, swimming and surfing, and eventually, when they are old enough, lifesaving. They learn waves, tides and safety procedures on the beach, so it's a really important thing to take part in when living over here.

Only downside is - it means we need to be at the beach every Sunday at 9am!!! This morning was a little chilly (or should I say 'nippy'!?) as we've had some cooler weather this week (and apparently the sea pool was freezing!) but once the summer hots up it will be lovely to start Sunday mornings at the beach - they lay on a breakfast barbecue and there's a coffee shop for the adults too, so it turns into quite a sociable and enjoyable activity for everyone... and once you've managed to actually get out of bed and get there, it's well worthwhile - by lunchtime you are back home, the kids have had a lovely morning at the beach, you've had a bbq, and you are ready for a restful Sunday afternoon...
